Fresh Laundry Thieves - our first ever runway appearance !!!
Back in November we were asked if we would be interested in providing some of our crazy dino pieces to appear in the Fresh Laundry Thieves runway show, the work of AICD's 2014 graduating stylists. Obviously we said hell yes !!! As an emerging designer it was wonderful to be offered such an opportunity, and highlights the importance of putting yourself out there to collaborate with fellow creative folk. Hosted at The Flying Cock in Fortitude Valley, it was a high quality fashion event and a credit to the team who worked hard to put it all together.
Our pieces were used in a couple of looks, with the stylists selecting pieces from the Dinosaurs for Tea range to complement the outfits they had put together. Of course one such look was entitled ‘Avant Pop’ and featured a number of our neon dino necklaces worn together to create an extreme colour pop – one of my favourite looks for the evening, but I might be biased! The look also featured a hooded white mesh swimsuit from Zingiber – a fellow Australian based company which added to the appeal. It was even featured in the Fashion Society’s Runway Report for the event which you can go check out here. I particularly admired the work of those stylists who sourced their pieces from locally or Australian based designers, it shows an earnest approach to supporting the Australian fashion industry.
My point of contact for the event was Ishtar Currie-Wilson who originally came across our brand whilst it was stocked at QUT’s Fleet Store, and all of her looks for the evening in fact featured accessories or garments from fellow QUT designers. Ishtar also does regular styling work for the eclectic Brisbane one-stop fashion destination Ra Ra Superstar (another Dinosaurs for Tea stockist!). Since graduating Ishtar has moved to New Zealand and we wish her all the best in her future styling career.
